How to get involved Join our team of volunteers! We have opportunities in many different roles, and every helping hand counts. PLEASE NOTE WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT RECRUITING HUB VOLUNTEERS OR DONATION HUB OPERATIONS – ALL OTHER ROLES HAVE SPACES TO FILL. Fareshare Food Collections from Waitrose We collect surplus food (in crates) from Waitrose and Tesco stores on Monday and Thursday evenings at 9.15 p.m. after the supermarkets have closed. Volunteers in pairs will transport the crates in their own cars to our hub in Milland Road, where food is allocated to fridges or freezers depending on its use by / best before dates. Time between ringing the back door at Waitrose and successfully storing the food at Milland Road is usually maximum one hour. You will need to check with your own car insurance that you are covered and we are not able to cover any expenses such as fuel. Delivery Drivers Our Drivers volunteer on a Tuesday or Friday afternoon, between 12 and 3pm, and collect pre-packed parcels from the donation hub at Winnall and deliver to clients in the Winchester and surrounding areas in their own vehicles. You will need to check with your own car insurance that you are covered and we are not able to cover any expenses such as fuel. Hub Volunteers Join our team of Hub volunteers and help support your local community! You’ll be involved in helping clients select the items they need, keeping shelves stocked, and sorting donations, including clothing, that arrive at the hub. Everyone completes a quick online food safety course, with initial training provided at the donation hub. You can check our opening hours here. Please note we’re currently not open on weekends or evenings and you must be over 18 to volunteer at our client facing hubs. Donation Hub Operators Help support your community by volunteering at our Donation Hub in Winnall! You’ll help sort donated food and hygiene products and pack parcels ready to reach those who need them most. The role involves some lifting, up to 15 kg, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. Sessions are on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm. For safeguarding reasons, volunteers need to be at least 18 years old. Collection from Stores Our Store Collectors play an important role in helping us support our community! Volunteers visit their nominated supermarkets — Sainsbury’s (Badger Farm / Middle Brook Street), Waitrose (Weeke), or the Co-op (Alresford) — to collect donated items and bring them back to our Donation Hub in Winnall. Collection times depend on the store, but donations can be dropped off at the Winnall hub on Tuesdays or Fridays between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, or on Wednesday mornings for Alresford. This role involves some lifting (up to 15 kg), so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive community. Sorting Clothes We receive donated clothing in our Donation Hub that needs sorting into categories, ready to be shipped out to the Milland Road hub. On Tuesday afternoons, from 12.30 p.m. to 2.45 p.m. we are looking for volunteers who can sort the clothing into categories, discarding those that are worse for wear. Clothing and other items are then sent out to the hubs.FOOD HUB VOLUNTEER Badger Farm Community Centre – Mondays Milland Road, Highcliffe – Tuesdays or Fridays St Gregory’s Church, Alresford – Wednesdays St Barnabas Church, Weeke – Thursdays Our Food Hub volunteers attend one of our food hub locations to help our clients select the goods they need, restack the shelves and sort donations (including clothes) that come direct to the hub locations. All staff will be required to complete some basic training, both online and at the donation hub location.
